Product Description
Common useOxytrol contains oxybutynin and is used to treat treating bladder spasms, overactive bladder (frequent or urgent urination, increased nighttime urination, urine leakage). Oxytrol blocks acetylcholine which binds with receptors of bladder muscles causing their contraction.
Dosage and direction
Take 5 mg immediate-release tablets of Oxytrol 2-4 times a day. Starting dose for elderly patients is 2.5 mg. Take extended-release tablets once daily. Oxytrol tablets can be taken with or without food. Do not crush, chew or broke the tablet.
Precautions
This medication may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Oxytrol impairs ability to high concentration of attention. Carefulness is needed while driving or any hazardous activity which requires alertness and ability to see clearly. Avoid drinking of alcoholic beverages to avoid worsening of side effects. Do not become overheated or dehydrated in hot weather or during exercise. Drink plenty of water while you are Oxytrol. Inform your doctor if you have glaucoma, kidney or liver disease, myasthenia gravis, an enlarged prostate, an intestinal disorder (ulcerative colitis), problems with stomach (gastroesophageal reflux disease) or slow digestion, pregnant, plan to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
Contraindications
This medication cannot be used in the patients with hypersensitivity to oxybutynin, uncontrolled glaucoma, a blockage in the stomach or intestines, anuria.
Side effects
The most frequent side effects which occur while using Oxytrol are: pruritus (itching), dry mouth, erythema (redness of the skin), vesicles (small bladderlike cavities), diarrhea, dysuria (painful urination). Other more rare adverse reactions are also possible: nausea, flatulence, abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, somnolence, flushing, rash, back pain, application site burning.
Drug interaction
Inform your doctor if you currently take atropine (Donnatal, and others), dicyclomine (Bentyl), belladonna, clidinium (Quarzan), mepenzolate (Cantil), glycopyrrolate (Robinul), methscopolamine (Pamine), hyoscyamine (Levsin, Anaspaz, Cystospaz), propantheline (Pro-Banthine), methantheline (Provocholine), scopolamine (Transderm-Scop), methantheline (Provocholine), propantheline (Pro-Banthine), methantheline (Provocholine), propantheline (Pro-Banthine), clarithromycin (Biaxin), erythromycin, itraconazole (Sporanox), or ketoconazole (Nizoral).
Missed dose
If you forgot to take your dose in time, please do it as soon as you remember. But do not take if it is too late or time for your next dose is in a short while. Do not take double doses of this medication or extra doses of it. Take your usually dose next day in the same regularly time.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose are: tingly feeling, uneven heart rate, restlessness, fever, vomiting, and urinating less than usual or anuria (absence of urination).
Storage
Store at room temperature between 20-25 C (68-77 F). Store away from moisture, heat, and sunlight. It is not recommended to store in a bathroom and places available for children.
